How have Plan International responded to the Ukraine Crisis?

Since March 2022, Plan International has been responding to the crisis in partnership with civil society organisations in Poland, Romania, and Moldova to meet the needs of those affected by the crisis as well as host communities, and we are also extending operations in Ukraine itself.

We are supporting an integrated education and child protection response, incorporating mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), with cash and voucher assistance (CVA) as a modality. 

What can you bring?

As Country Accountant, you will train and support new finance colleagues as the mission grows, ensuring compliance with national and group accounting regulations.

Your role will complement the Country Finance Manager in national accounting, IFRS, finance corporate systems, financial reporting and internal financial controls in the country (either: Moldova, Poland Romania or Ukraine).  

You'll be

  • Ensuring timely and compliant accounting with regards to national and group regulations (IFRS, US GAAP, applicable national regulations) 
  • Accountable for general and project ledgers of the mission 
  • Supporting and enforcing clear allocation of costs 
  • Preparing or reviewing payroll process (when delegated to a POE)
  • Reviewing and/or posting financial transactions in SAP
  • Supporting and/or supervising payments to suppliers, partners and staff 
  • Preparing and reconciling monthly VAT and Withholding tax schedules for payment
  • Ensuring effective cash management for the day-to-day operations of the country office 
  • Supervising the activities of the Accounts Payable and/or Intercompany Assistant 

You'll have:

Essential  

  • Qualified or part-qualified accountant with knowledge of national accounting laws. 
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills, including sufficient political credibility to work across all layers in the country, the response and interacting with the global finance team. 
  • Strong written and spoken English. 
  • The ability to communicate clearly, effectively and as appropriate to the audience.  
  • Solution focused; able to prioritise, deliver on time and cope with ambiguity.  
  • Sensitivity to a wide range of cultures, context and varying levels of finance capability. 

Desirable  

  • Knowledge of IFRS and/or US GAAP 
  • Experience in leading financial teams in Emergency Responses.  
  • Knowledge and experience in using SAP and Microsoft D365.  
  •  
  • Financial systems expertise. Fluency with complex financial systems including multi-currency accounting packages / ERP.

Due to the emergency nature of our response, and the critical need for colleagues to begin in-country ASAP, we are only able to accept applications from local candidates, or candidates who have the pre-existing right to enter Poland, Romania, Ukraine or Moldova visa-free for at least 90 days.

Where will I be based? 

You’ll be based in one of the country offices in Chisinau, Bucharest, Warsaw or Kyiv.
