Internews in Moldova is looking for a research expert/company to conduct in-house training session for a media organization

Context: MEDIA-M project provide assistance for six independent media outlets (Key Partners/ KPs), which were selected to receive long-term targeted grant support, including improvement of the editorial component and producing more quality content across a variety of traditional and digital platforms in rural and urban areas. It aims to promote the development of an independent, professional media in Moldova that gives citizens access to a variety of perspectives and fosters a media sector that is more resilient to political and financial pressures and create a more informed citizenry that understands the value of fact-based, credible journalism.

As part of its activities under this project, MEDIA-M will contract a research expert/company to provide a two-day training session on how to conduct in-house focus group interviews on various topics of interest, and other two days of consultancy support to perform first in-house focus groups interviews. The expert/company will provide a guide on how to run a focus group, that will help media organization effectively collect community opinions on an issue or service, to test solutions, to explore the group’s perspective of a problem and to generate ideas.

Responsibilities

The research expert/company must:

  • provide a two-day in-house training session and three day of consultancy for media organization staff;
  • train the media organization staff in key research ethics;
  • explain what a focus group is, when to use focus groups or individual interviews and how to plan and run a focus group, how to recruit participants;
  • provide critical skills and resources required to hold a focus group, practical tips;
  • develop data collection tools;
  • provide a guide on how to run a focus group (with templates for them to adapt and use in their own research);
  • support the media organization in conducting the first focus group.

The period of implementation, specific and more advanced topics for training sessions and consultancy, and the name of the media organization to work with will be discussed with the selected expert/company.

Selection Criteria

Applicants will be expected to have:

  • Higher education in sociology, marketing;
  • At least 5 years of experience in qualitative research, conducting focus groups, in-depth interviews, and similar activities;
  • Advanced knowledge of qualitative data research, collection, analysis, and interpretation;
  • Familiarity with local media landscape would be an asset;
  • Capacity to analyze, monitor, summarize, and evaluate.
